About Us

The Allumer Quartet is a horn quartet founded in Baton Rouge, LA in 2016. Allumer is a Cajun French word meaning "to light or ignite". Allumer’s mission is to expand the horn quartet repertoire and in so doing ignite greater passion in our listeners.

Centria Brown

Music is the fire that inspires Centria in her day to day life. Born and raised in a small town outside of Charlotte, NC, singing and dancing was a huge part of her childhood. Centria began to study the horn at age 11 and fell in love with the colors it created within ensembles. She later went on to study music education at Wingate University under the direction of Dr. Christopher Griffin. Although she enjoys teaching she just as equally loves to perform.

Centria moved down to Baton Rouge, LA to study horn performance under Seth Orgel. She loved the connection of playing with her colleagues and the excitement that came from performing. Centria enjoys the idea of playing with people from across the globe who all understand the language that is Music.

Centria is currently working on her Doctorate of Music Arts and teaches middle school band in Gonzales, LA. She freelances throughout the state of Louisiana. Some of the groups she performed with include Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, Monroe Symphony Orchestra and Opera Louisiane. Allumer Quartet allows for Centria to play with horn players who share the same passion of spreading horn quartet music to communities.

Tom Fish

Tom Fish began his professional career in music with the Great Lakes Wind Symphony in Rochester, New York as principal horn and as substitute horn for the Northern Tier Symphony Orchestra in 2015.  He also received runner-up in the 198th Army Reserves Solo Competition in 2014. While pursuing this career, Tom graduated Mansfield University of Pennsylvania with a B.M. in Music Education studying under Dr. Rebecca Dodson-Webster. He then completed his M.M. in Horn Performance at Louisiana State University where he continued his professional career in music performance as a freelancer.  Most notable groups include the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Jefferson Performing Arts Society. After graduating from LSU, Tom began a career in the U.S. Navy Fleet Bands as a musician where he currently serves in Newport, RI.

Tom enjoys igniting the passion for music into others in many other ways besides performing.  At LSU, he taught horn to undergraduate students in conjunction with his professor, Seth Orgel. During his Master’s degree, he also had the joy of having his own private studio, and was a band director at St. Theresa Middle School in Gonzales, Louisiana from 2016-2017.

Out of everything that that he does, he finds the most joy from putting together musical projects that share his love of music with others.  Not only does this include the Allumer Quartet, but also multiple recitals in his hometown featuring his colleagues in Pennsylvania.

Evan McAleer

Evan McAleer is both a performer as well as music educator.  Currently serving as a member of the Allumer Quartet of which he is a founding member, Evan continues to work toward expanding the horn quartet repertoire through the commissioning and premiering of new music.

Evan's musical journey has been a varied and interesting one, which has allowed him to perform in a variety of performing ensembles.  While at a young age, Evan was extremely fortunate to be a member of the Father Ryan High School Band Program as well as the Father Ryan High School Musical Theater productions, both of which helped foster a love of music.  With this love of music, Evan attended Louisiana State University (LSU) to study Music Education where he studied Horn under the instruction of Seth Orgel.  During his time at LSU, Evan participated in both the LSU Orchestra and LSU Bands in addition to playing in a Brass Quintet and Horn Quartet.  Before graduating with his degree in Music Education, Evan also spent his summers performing as a member of both the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps (2008-2010) as well as Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps (2011).

Since finishing his Bachelor's in Music Education, Evan has served as a middle and high school band director throughout Louisiana, a substitute Horn for the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, an instructional staff member for various Drum and Bugle Corps, and a student continuing his own musical education through graduate coursework at LSU.  Currently serving as the Assistant Director of Bands at DeRidder High School, Evan remains an active performing musician as not only a member of the Allumer Quartet, but also by performing as a member of various other groups in West Louisiana.
